I had a customer with this problem - he couldn't get the above settings to 'stick' - it'd revert back to an error about not finding AutoCAD Mechanical 2009 each new session.

The customer had to do a clean uninstall (of Inventor Suite incl. Mechanical) to reregister 2010 version in the registry successfully. I suspect permissions was the reason for this...nevertheless, if the above doesn't hold, clean reinstall is always an additional option to try.

Yeah, I agree with you. You could also try to launch the secondary installer and it might help sometime.
